After finishing up my final mono-print I got home and looked at it and while I feel confident in the print, it also appears unfinished in a way. I can add more color to it however the composition I created seems more effective in conveying the mage I want to show, however I also feel like I should continue to add onto it. The swirls I created in the middle are something I want to keep within the image, but I also feel that the center of the piece is the part that is missing something. I shouldn't let this fear of messing the objects and orientation up, however I think that I will have to overcome this if I want to be satisfied with this piece.

On November 24, the art classes visited the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts which showed ancient Chinese Artifacts which were amazing. It was a one in a life time chance to see such beauties and I am happy to have seen such wonderful items from a foreign country in my own hometown. The artworks were beautiful and were unlike many sculptures and paintings I had sen before. the exhibit was also very informative and I learned of the European influences in the lives of the royalty Chinese at the time as well as the artwork. It was also very informative in describing the use of certain items and their significance to the rulers during the time period which it was set in.
I discovered this photographer through his very interesting photographs taken with a x-ray machine. After finding his website I saw that he also took photos of cities in action, the daily lives of people and other captivating scenes. This use of such a strange instrument to capture the inner workings of an object is unique and very fascinating. It is interesting to see the way things look in the inside. To me these pictures also show a different world to the one we see and makes it even more beautiful. Fabian Oenfer is a photographer and artist born in Switzerland. His art captures images using every day instruments such as sound waves, light and magnetic ferroliquids. His works also features layering many images over each other to create the illusion of a galaxy or a car who's parts are seemingly levitating off of it. I love these images for there use of colors and how using everyday things such as sound, light, and every a sphere and a can of paint to create beautiful pictures and organic shapes. I would love to try some of his methods as they seem like an interesting experiences to see how his process is and I would also like to find out more about his thinking and working processes when he decided to create these amazing images. These two mono-prints are two of my first prints and my favorites out of my the first day. They were very simple, free, and accidental, however I enjoyed my last few prints which were fun to create and were something that I wanted to make rather than me mixing ink and putting it on the paper.
During Lunch this past week a local artist spoke to us about his artwork and the art classes were also able to discuss the different types of art scenes in modern times. I enjoyed his loose painting style and the many colors that helped to create the images and I also liked his personality, but I felt that the lecture was more of a Q and A which is not bad because we were able to get a deeper understanding of his feeling on certain topics. It was different from past lectures that I have attended which I felt the artist talked more about there work rather than others in the past, present and future or even poked fun at musicians. However, when we returned to class we were able to have a good discussion on the topic of muralist and institutionalist which Mr. Auken raised a point on. Though muralist do create amazing art and institutionalist create very conceptional art that is mostly found in business settings we felt that he did not take into account the artist who fall in between these two different styles of art.
Roxy Paine is an American contemporary artist who creates works based on the conflict between industry and nature, as well as chaos and control. His artworks features stainless steel trees, replicas of mushrooms and poppies, plants in various states of decay, and large scale machine sculptures. I really liked the steel trees and how he was able to create a machine like feel to it, mixing industry and nature. I also liked how his style of art could go from a creating a replica of something, to a very creative intertwining of machines with nature on the human body. I feel as though this juxtaposition between controlled art and chaotic will help to expand my art style. This past week I was able to finish sketching out my drawing, tinting my paper and I began coloring my drawing with conté after I was able to learn Parmigianino's art stroke.
Anna Garforth is an artist who does a wide variety of artworks using things like moss, reusing paper, and digital illustration and animation to create her works. Her works mostly center around nature however, she also experiments with baking food and making art out of it. She also conveys messages such as taking care of our world and going out and enjoying through her work. I like how she is able to use her surroundings along with her traditional and digital art skills to create such a variety of works. I also enjoy how she incorporates nature into her art by using it in as the work itself, background, or simply using a photo as the objects design. It is a very different art style than what currently in the art world.
