Artist Statement
Being connected with people is something that I have struggled with, as I enjoy keeping to myself. However, many of my personal traits and views on the world come from those around me. Even my artwork has been significantly affected by people around. As I have grown I have found it easier to be around those people, but I find myself wanting to be around someone’s true self rather than a friendly persona. I want to explore what I see in people and why they become someone of importance to my life and
Taking elements within those around me I want to explore people, the emotions we are able to show and the roles we are able to play within our lives and others lives. I use more traditional mediums such as paints and pencils because of the marks they leave, which give the drawings texture and layers, while also keeping in mind these are medians I eventually had to teach myself how to use. Most ideas and actions are sporadic and sometimes done from memory. Others are controlled, however it all ties back to the feelings and person being depicted.
