| In the beginning of the year we visited the Visual Arts Center where we viewed the artwork of Bob Trotman, the son of a banker who resented the business life style and chose instead to live a a rural, simply life as an artist. This exhibited further helped toe express Bob's dislike for the corporate world. The sculptures showed the power and privilege which shapes the world around us and brought to light some things we failed to notice within our world. The sculptures incorporation of sound served to enhance the artwork and helped to clearly portray the artist's message. After the exhibit I was left pondering what some of the simple gestures of the sculptures could mean? The simple tamping of the hand and the stares of the two men. Did the sounds within the room come together to create the sounds of a cooperate building? How did the exhibits content change the atmosphere? Does this show pity, disdain, or sadness towards people trapped in the corporate world in some way. This visit also helped me to incorporate some of his style into my drawings. I really liked the usage of the dull colors in the sculptures, but the powerful message that it was able to show through the arrangement and expressions of the artwork. |

Roxy Paine is an American contemporary artist who creates works based on the conflict between industry and nature, as well as chaos and control. His artworks features stainless steel trees, replicas of mushrooms and poppies, plants in various states of decay, and large scale machine sculptures. I really liked the steel trees and how he was able to create a machine like feel to it, mixing industry and nature. I also liked how his style of art could go from a creating a replica of something, to a very creative intertwining of machines with nature on the human body. I feel as though this juxtaposition between controlled art and chaotic will help to expand my art style. This past week I was able to finish sketching out my drawing, tinting my paper and I began coloring my drawing with conté after I was able to learn Parmigianino's art stroke.
Anna Garforth is an artist who does a wide variety of artworks using things like moss, reusing paper, and digital illustration and animation to create her works. Her works mostly center around nature however, she also experiments with baking food and making art out of it. She also conveys messages such as taking care of our world and going out and enjoying through her work. I like how she is able to use her surroundings along with her traditional and digital art skills to create such a variety of works. I also enjoy how she incorporates nature into her art by using it in as the work itself, background, or simply using a photo as the objects design. It is a very different art style than what currently in the art world.
